ACA Enrollment for 2023 Coverage

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Marketplace insurance is for those who don’t have insurance through their employer or Medicaid, Medicare or Children’s Health Insurance Plan (CHIP).
  • You must re-enroll for 2023 Coverage even if you already have Marketplace Insurance.
  • Open enrollment begins November 1, 2022, and ends January 15, 2023.  
    • If you don’t act by January 15, 2023, you can’t get 2023 coverage unless you qualify for a special enrollment period.
    • Enroll by December 15, 2022 for coverage that starts on January 1, 2023.
    • Otherwise, you can still enroll by January 15, 2023 for coverage which begins once complete.
  • Most people get financial assistance. Legacy’s Certified Application Counselors can figure out if you qualify and help you with enrollment.

How do I enroll?

  • You can enroll by phone with the Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596 or TTY at 1-855-889-4325; or online at healthcare.gov after contacting the Marketplace Call Center. The Marketplace Call Center and website are open 24/7 with the exception of major holidays. Over 100 different languages are spoken by those answering the call at the Marketplace Call Center.
  • If you need assistance, schedule an appointment with a Wellness Bar Certified Application Counselor by calling (713) 814 3730.
  • Appointments made with a Certified Application Counselor can be completed online or in-person.
  • Know your Marketplace log-in and password prior to scheduling an appointment with any Certified Application Counselors. This will speed up the process and not take time away from your appointment.
  • Use the checklist to make sure you have all the information you will need to enroll.
  • Keeping or updating your current plan? You must still re-enroll during November 1, 2022 – January 15, 2023.
  • Plan ahead! Enrolling takes time and you don’t want to miss the deadline.

  • Visit healthcare.gov to complete your application once the Marketplace Call Center gives you access.

If you choose to set up an appointment with Wellness Bar for assistance, the process is as follows:

  • Schedule your one-on-one session with a Certified Application Counselor who can assist with education and enrollment by calling (713) 814 3730.
  • With a Certified Application Counselor, you will visit the HealthCare.gov website to complete your application once the Marketplace Call Center gives you access by creating an account.

Here’s what you’ll need to enroll:

  • Website Credentials – this is your Username & Password for Healthcare.gov (if you have an existing account). You can still create an account or recover your password prior to Nov 1st at https://www.healthcare.gov/login
  • Basic information – this includes name, date of birth and social security numbers for you and anyone else in your household, regardless of whether or not they will be applying for coverage
  • Home and mailing address – for everyone applying for coverage
  • Immigration status and documents – only for those lawfully present immigrants who are applying for coverage. Visit gov/help/immigration-document-types for more information on what documents are accepted
  • Tax filing status – whether you file separately or jointly and who is considered a tax dependent
  • Your employer and income information – aside from regular wages, this will also include supplemental or non-traditional income sources such as tips, social security payments, alimony, retirement or pension income, investment income, rental income, and any other taxable income
  • Your best estimate of your household income – this is your best estimate of what your household income will be in 2023. To help you estimate, use the following tool
  • Current coverage information and policy number – this includes you or anyone in your household covered in 2022 under Medicare, Children’s Health Insurance Plan (CHIP), Medicare, TRICARE, VA Healthcare Program, Peace Corps, or employer coverage
  • Employer contact information for all household members – you will also be asked if you are covered coverage under any employer plans
  • A completed “Employer Coverage Tool” – this is a tool offered by healthcare.gov which needs to be completed for any member of the family who isn’t enrolled in a job-based plan. Link tool here.

 Dates and Deadlines

November 1, 2022: Open enrollment period begins

December 15, 2022: Open enrollment period for coverage starting on January 1, 2023 ends

January 15, 2023: Enrollment period ends for any coverage in 2023

When does enrollment end?

Why would I enroll in the ACA?

It’s cheaper to have insurance than to find yourself in an emergency and not have it.

What is a black out?

The website Healthcare.gov, used to sign up for health insurance, will be shut down overnight on Sundays throughout the enrollment period. You will not be able to enroll when the web site is down.

Where do I go to enroll?

When can I call the Marketplace Call Center or Wellness Bar for assistance?

The Marketplace Call Center can be contacted 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Wellness Bar staff can be contacted during regular business hours, Monday through Friday to schedule a one-on-one session.

Should I wait to enroll?

Do not delay! Having health insurance sooner than later could mean the difference if you find yourself in a medical emergency.
